Cancer is treated using Chemotherapy where certain drugs are used. While these drugs are so strong that they may kill the cancerous cells, they may be harmful for the normal cells too. This is particularly true for the cells present in the mouth. Chemotherapy can cause severe side effects in the patient’s mouth.
The nature of side effects of chemotherapy may vary from patient to patient. The type of problem may depend on the chemotherapy drugs being administered in a patient and the body’s response to them. A patient may face these problems while the chemotherapy treatment is going on or for a brief duration after the end of the treatment. Some of the side effects include:
- Infection
- Dry mouth
- Change in taste
- Painful gums and mouth
